MEET THE TEACHERS
WHAT PARENTS & STUDENTS SAY ABOUT SPANISH 1

"My daughter has enjoyed Living Waters Spanish, as Sr. Riegg has made learning a foreign language approachable and fun! The online weekly classes were engaging, as well as challenging with its immersion approach. As a parent, I appreciated how the assignments were designed to keep my child actively listening to and speaking Spanish on a daily basis throughout the course of the year. The highlight of this class has been seeing my child gain confidence in speaking to other native Spanish speakers. Sr. Riegg has also done a wonderful job bringing Christ into his class as the motivation for his students to be able speak Spanish for God's glory."
— Kristine J. (Spanish 1 parent)

"In one or two weeks in your class, she has learned more than in one year in these other programs. We talk about your class all the time, and my husband has even attended just to see what all the raves are about. My daughter Isabella has taken Spanish in an after school program at the local public school, and also been tutored privately. In one or two weeks in your class, she has learned more than in one year in these other programs."
— Suzy (parent)

"I would like to say I'm thrilled with how the boys are learning. Lately I've been hearing semi conversations between them. This is more Spanish than I heard when my older boys did Rosetta Stone or when they took it at the local community college. So thank you for all your hard work I see it coming through my boys!"
— Carol (mom of Spanish 1 students)

"I am so excited. I started reading in San Juan today in my Bible and I was able to read a verse because I knew Hijo, Dios, tu, el, rey!"
— Kristen (Spanish 1 Student)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is Spanish 1 really taught 100% in Spanish?
Yes! From the very first day, your teacher speaks Spanish throughout the entire 90-minute class. BUT we provide English translation slides for new vocabulary and concepts, so you're never lost. This "controlled immersion" approach means you understand everything while your brain naturally acquires Spanish the way you learned English as a child. Parents are often amazed at how quickly students adapt and start thinking in Spanish!

Do I need any Spanish experience to start Spanish 1?
No! Spanish 1 is designed for complete beginners. If you've never studied Spanish or only know "hola" and "gracias," this is your starting point. We start from absolute zero and build systematically.

What does "Christ-centered" actually mean in your classes?
It means Jesus is at the heart of everything we do, not an add-on. Every class opens with prayer and worship in Spanish. We memorize Scripture verses. The Bible is our primary text - you'll read numerous narratives from Scripture throughout the year. We discuss what God is doing in our lives. Vocabulary focuses on faith, testimony, and gospel-sharing. Our teachers disciple students, not just instruct. And students have opportunities to use Spanish on mission trips to serve and share Jesus.

What materials do I need to buy?
Nothing extra! Your $199 deposit covers ALL curriculum for the entire year. You'll receive access to our online platform, all required materials, the Bible in Spanish, and the FREE Education Perfect platform. No hidden fees for textbooks or workbooks. Everything is included.

Extra Resources

A multitude of reading, writing, listening, and speaking resources are available on the Living Waters Spanish website for all students.

Can adults really take Spanish 1?
Absolutely! We welcome students ages 12 to adult. Many parents enroll alongside their teens, and we have adult-only students preparing for missions or ministry. Age doesn't matter - if you want to learn Spanish to serve God, you belong here.

What is ACTFL and why does it matter?
ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) provides standardized proficiency guidelines used by schools, colleges, and employers nationwide. Spanish 1 targets "Novice-Mid" level, meaning you can communicate basic information on very familiar topics using single sentences and memorized phrases. It's a measurable, recognized standard that shows exactly what you'll be able to DO in Spanish, not just what grammar rules you've memorized.

How much homework is there really?
Expect 3 hours per week structured across multiple days - NOT all at once! Here's the breakdown:
- Education Perfect exercises: 30-45 minutes
- Native speaker conversation: 15-30 minutes
- Bible reading in Spanish: 30-45 minutes
- Writing practice: 30 minutes
- Scripture memorization: ongoing (5-10 min daily)

It's manageable for busy homeschool families and designed to fit around your schedule.

What if my student misses a class or falls behind?
We have a 4-week grace period for all makeup work. Students can complete missing assignments or quizzes within four weeks of the original due date. We understand life happens - illness, family emergencies, schedule conflicts. We build in flexibility because we want you to succeed, not stress!

How does the native speaker homework work?
Each week, students spend 15-30 minutes in conversation with a Spanish speaker. This could be someone at your church, a neighbor, a tutor you hire online (very affordable!), or connections we help you find. It's simple conversation practice - not formal tutoring. Real conversation with real people is how fluency develops! We provide conversation prompts and topics.

Will this prepare my student for mission work?
Yes! Spanish 1 students learn essential vocabulary for sharing the gospel, praying, worshiping, and serving. Students who join our Mexico mission trips use Spanish to communicate with nationals, share testimonies, and serve effectively. You won't be fluent after Spanish 1, but you'll have practical tools for ministry. Many mission organizations specifically recruit our students because they can actually SPEAK and SERVE, not just recite memorized phrases.

Can my student earn college credit after Spanish 1?
Spanish 1 alone probably isn't enough for CLEP/AP exams (those usually require 2-3 years of study). BUT Spanish 1 is the essential foundation. After Spanish 2 or 3, students are well-prepared to take CLEP exams and earn 6-12 college credits. We'll guide you on timing. Many students complete Spanish 2-3 and then test out of college Spanish entirely!

What's included in the $199 deposit?
Your non-refundable $199 deposit covers:
- ALL curriculum materials for the year
- Access to online platform
- Spanish Bible
- Education Perfect platform (FREE bonus - $200+ value!)
- Official high school transcript at year end
- Secure your seat in class (first-come, first-served)

No hidden fees. No surprise material costs. Everything included.

What's the monthly tuition?
$84 per month (9 months) OR $756 for the full year if paid upfront. This covers:
- 90-minute live weekly classes
- Professional teacher instruction and grading
- All platform access
- Teacher support via email
- Official transcript
-Everything except the initial $199 deposit

Can we get a family discount?
Yes! Family discounts are available upon request for families with multiple students or demonstrated financial need. We want Christ-centered Spanish education accessible to every family God calls to it. Just ask - we'll work with you!

What if we're not satisfied?
We offer a full refund of tuition (minus the $199 deposit) if you're not satisfied. Just call 503-715-7227. We want you to be thrilled with your experience. If Living Waters Spanish isn't the right fit, we'll make it right. Risk-free enrollment.

Can parents really join classes for free?
Yes! This is one of our unique offerings. A parent or a grandparent can audit ALL classes at absolutely no additional cost. You can learn alongside your student, supervise instruction, or just enjoy learning Spanish. If you want your own homework account and high school credit, you can enroll as a paying student at regular tuition. Either way, you're welcome!

Is there a placement test?
Yes! If you've studied Spanish before (at another program, school, or country), take our free placement test to find your level. Spanish 1 is for complete beginners, but if you have 1-2 years of prior study, you might belong in Spanish 2. We want you in the right class for success!

What makes your teachers different from other programs?
Our teachers aren't college students or uncertified tutors. They're professional educators with 10-30+ years of teaching experience, advanced degrees in theology and education, ministry backgrounds in Mexico and Ecuador, and native Spanish speakers on staff. They've led mission trips, planted churches, run children's homes, and dedicated their lives to serving God through language education. They don't just teach Spanish - they disciple students.
MEET THE TEACHERS
