A Heart for Jesus
Willing to acquire Spanish for Christ. Our mission is equipping students to share the Gospel and serve Spanish-speaking communities.
5th-Grade Reading
Able to read at a 5th grade level in English. Needed to engage with Spanish texts and Bible passages in class and homework.
20 WPM Typing
Able to type 20 words per minute. Test their speed or practice at typing.com.
~4.5 Hours/Week
40 minutes of homework 4 days/week plus a 90-minute live class. Consistency is essential for real language acquisition.
Use the Rubric to Find Your Level
This isn’t a placement test — it’s an honest look at where your student is right now. Review the rubric, then read the level cards. It’s better to start at the right level and build confidence than to struggle in a class that’s too advanced.
Spanish 1 — Beginner
No Spanish background or very minimal exposure · Ages 12 to adult
- Has no ability to understand Spanish questions or statements
- Has no Spanish vocabulary beyond a few random words
- Cannot form sentences in Spanish
- Is starting from absolute zero — and that’s perfect!
- Understand simple questions and statements in Spanish
- Use familiar words and phrases on familiar topics
- Combine words and phrases into original sentences
- Memorize foundational Scripture verses in Spanish
- Know how to share basic Gospel truths in Spanish
Spanish 2 — Intermediate
Understands simple Spanish but needs practice and expansion · ~1 year prior study
- Can understand simple questions and statements (may need repetition)
- Uses familiar words and phrases on familiar topics
- Can elaborate a little beyond basic phrases
- Wants to expand range and depth
- Understand questions and statements without repetition
- Use a variety of words and phrases on a broader range of topics
- Give more details and elaborate on familiar topics
- Share more of the Gospel story in Spanish
- Begin thinking in Spanish, not translating from English
Spanish 3 — Advanced
Developing real conversational fluency · ~2–3 years prior study
- Understands questions and statements (may occasionally need repetition)
- Uses a variety of words and phrases on a range of familiar topics
- Can give details and elaborate comfortably
- Is ready for more complex communication
- Understand main idea and most details in familiar conversations
- Use connected sentences to narrate, describe, or explain
- Begin communicating in paragraph-length responses
- Lead prayer and worship publicly in Spanish
- Engage in deeper biblical and theological discussions
- Ready to earn CLEP college credit
Spanish 4+ — Fluency & Ministry Mastery
Advanced students preparing for ministry and real-world fluency · 3+ years
- Understands main idea and most details in familiar conversations
- Uses connected sentences to communicate effectively on many topics
- Consistently uses expanded vocabulary with confidence
- Is ready for advanced literature, theology, and ministry preparation
- Be understood by native Spanish speakers not accustomed to learners
- Communicate comfortably in paragraph-length discourse
- Preach, teach, and lead in Spanish professionally
- Score 4–5 on AP Spanish or 70–80 on CLEP
- Be equipped for global missions and ministry anywhere
